Airlie Beach and kiwi goes for an adventure ride

Poor George has water issues - his water hose has split so we enlisted the help of some friendly kiwi travellers in the form of their GPS to find us a local service station - turns out we didnt use them as we werent that confident they knew what they were doing :)

So down the road we limped with the water coolant light flashing and squeeling in our ears to Autopro - a bit like Repco - called into their fantastic carpark which we spent a few nights in and sought their advice.  The guys were great and more than happy to sell us a few bits and pieces, give us some free advice and camp in their carpark.  We didnt get a proper repair done but enough of a patch up job that we should make it to Townsville and look again for a servcie station.

good thing hes still smiling

While in Airlie Beach we decided to check out Island Camping and Tours and ended up by booking a trip onboard Fury - an open raft type boat with 4 engines.  We got a little wet on the trip out and back partly because of the type of boat but also because the weather wasnt that great.

hold on Kiwi

Spent a wee while on Whitehaven Beach - apparently one of the top 10 beaches in the world - and it was nice enough - beautiful soft white silica sand - very crowded though as we werent the only boat trip to arrive. We spent some time playing in the sand as you can see.

After lunch we headed off again to Chalky Bay to do a bit of snorkeling - first time for me jumping of the boat but i surfaced again, thankfully.  The snorkelling wasnt that great, water was murky and quite cold so no one stayed in for very long.  Then it was time to head back.  I think we decided that the snorkeling we had done in Bowen was better - whether that was because of the weather or for whatever reason I dont know.
